Ide Were Were

new single — Praful's version of the popular African chant for the goddess of love and rivers Oshun

June 6 2023

Ide Were Were is an African-flavored chill out song based on the ancient traditional chant for Och?n, the Orich? (goddess) of love from the Yoruba religion, which was practiced in what is today Nigeria and Benin. Taken by the slaves to the New World, it formed the base of the Santeria religion in Cuba and the Candombl? in Brazil. Like a black Aphrodite, her seductive and sensual power encapsulates the feminine ideal. In nature, she rules over rivers. Praful’s adaptation and harmonisation was recorded by the singer Deva Premal in the year 2000 and has since become a highly popular song in singing circles all over the globe. This is Praful’s first own recording, featuring guest vocalist Pernilla Kannapinn.
